Waari book cafe

[Disclaimer : This should not be treated as cafe review or a standard for visiting or never visiting a cafe. All posts in this blog are going to be overly critical.]

Date : 19-May-2018
Time : 9:20 a.m.
cover charge : 50 Rs. per person
Order : Tea  (included in cover charge)

Pros :
1. Good tea. Almost home-made. Sugar and Milk, perfect for me. (too much for Piyush)
2. Huge selection of books
3. Loads of seating options. Indoor, outdoor, desk, sofa, floor etc. All welcoming.
4. Nice ambiance for curling up with a book.
5. Lovely small tables which could fit around a sofa or chair or unobtrusively stand on side. Check the pics.
6.Amazing music choice. Western classical.
7. Inexpensive menu.
8. Good for families with kids older than 10.

Cons :
1. Usher who calls out from the desk and gives instructions one by one. I suspect, it was actually her day off. "Excuse me, please take off shoes there." "Excuse me, please write ur details in register." "Excuse me, 100 Rs. cover charge." "Drink included in 50.(no, it was just any hot/cold beverage)"
2.  Books were stacked randomly. Mrs. Funnybones on top of adventures of huckleberry finn on top of Agatha Christie on top of Tinkle Digest....(well, you get the idea.)
3. The staff was neither interested in books or cafe.
4. Not at all toddler-friendly. Not a single kid's book/toy.
5. Slightly dusty. Particularly the diaries to be sold were covered with dust.

Suggested improvements :
1. The top seating area should be made for shoe-less customers. Outdoors  and the immediate entrance should allow people who would prefer to keep their shoes on.
2. Menus should be mounted on a wall where it would be easy to read them.
3. Wall decorations can have some good quotes from the books, rather than just a colored xerox of the main cover.
4. Books need to be organised and an enthusiastic volunteer should offer assistance for all customers who enter. Instead of piling them on, they should be arranged the perpendicular way. It looks more like a second-hand book shop than a library theme.
5. There should be a small play area for toddlers. The cafe is potentially keeping young families out.
6. Pillow/sofa covers need to be washed at least once a month. books should be dusted at least once a week.

Overall rating : 8/10.
